Last Thursday morning I woke up at 4:00 am to be on the road by 5:00 to head to Massachusetts for my fall break. It was a bit earlier than Michael and I both wanted to be up, but it was better than wasting the whole day away in the car. It was the most beautiful ride because we got to watch the sunrise and see the world when it is quiet.
These photos were taken while we were driving through the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area. This is one of the long stretches I look forward to on my trips up to Massachusetts because it’s just miles and miles of gorgeous scenery. It was extra stunning that morning with the fog hovering over the ground and the sun just peeking its way into the sky.
The rest of Thursday:
We were greeted by my handsome dog, Lucca and spent the afternoon catching up with my mom. Once my youngest sister got home from school, Michael and I hung out with my sisters for awhile. Later on that night we went out with two of my good friends from high school, Becky and Emilio. It was such a great night reminiscing on old conversations and memories from high school.
Friday:
Our original plan for Friday was to go apple picking and then make apple pie afterwards. When I was looking up all of the orchards that were a reasonable distance from us, most of them were all sold out of the pick-your-own! Can you believe that? I was so shocked, but next time I know to go in September instead of the beginning of October.
In the late afternoon the four of us went on a photo shoot. My sister Corryn is a very talented photographer, so she captured some photos of Michael and I. My man isn’t so bad with the camera himself, so my sisters and I were able to get some good shots together. I’ll have those photos up later on this week.
We ended up going to the grocery store to buy apples, so we could still make some apple pie. It came out really good and it was the perfect dessert to have while watching Wreck It Ralph.
Saturday:
My sister Bethany, Michael and I drove up to my dad’s house in Northwestern Massachusetts. It is one of the most scenic routes going through Western Massachusetts – it is always lovely, especially this time of year.
It was a very laid-back, chill day accompanied with a drive to admire all of the foliage.
Michael and I had a little spontaneous date night to ourselves and went to TGI Fridays. He makes everything and anything super duper fun!
Sunday:
We got to visit my home church. I haven’t been able to go for quite some time, so it was nice to see familiar faces and some new ones. I have been gone for four years and it is crazy how much has changed in my home church – I barely know anyone anymore, but God is moving there and that is a wonderful thing.
After church, Michael and I visited my grandparents for the afternoon. We had lunch and lots of good conversation. They are the best!
Later on that night we went out with my friend Jordan for a late dinner. We hadn’t seen her for almost a whole year, so it meant a lot to catch up. Then we headed to see our friend Maura at her work. It was so nice to see her because it had been over two years since I last saw her.
Monday:
We headed off about 7:30 am to come back to Pennsylvania. We usually drive straight on through the six hours, but we decided to stop for a few minutes in the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area. We went up a little trail in the woods and enjoyed the silence and then we were back on the road again.
Our fall break wasn’t much of a relaxing break, but we were able to enjoy it with some close loved ones – and that’s the best. Now to hop back into my insane schedule…I think I need a break!
