Michael and I booked a Friday evening wedding. At first, we were bummed that we couldn’t have a Saturday evening wedding, but as planning went on and now that we saw how everything unfolded, we are SO glad we chose a Friday!
Before I get into convincing you that a Friday wedding is better, I first want to blurb a little disclaimer, because I know it’s something that I’m sure some of you will have comments about.
Many people choose Saturday weddings for a number of reasons, but one of the most common reasons is for guests – the locals and the travelers. For us, we had more locals than travelers. Our local guests knew way in advance when our wedding was so they were able to either take the day off or even pull a half-day/leave early. Our traveling guests also knew in advance so they too were able to take the day off and then had the rest of the weekend to enjoy themselves and travel back home.
Now it’s time for my convincing…

Here are 5 Reasons Why Friday Weddings Are Better
Venue Availability //
Michael and I had our hearts set on our wedding venue months before we even got engaged. The Monday after we got engaged, we called up the venue and were asking for available dates in the time frame we wanted and the only dates available were Fridays. Saturdays get taken off the venue market so quickly because they’re the natural go-to. Not only is there a great chance of your dream venue being available, but there’s also a higher chance of booking the DJ you want, as well as photographers and videographers.

The Cost //
First, let me say that weddings are not cheap at all, no matter what day you have it on. BUT having a Friday wedding helped us save thousands on our outdoor wedding venue. In order to book a Friday wedding at the venue of our choice, you’d have to have at least (or pay for no matter what) 150 people. If you were to have a Saturday wedding at our venue of choice, you’d have to have at least 225 people, not to mention the cost per plate would be higher than on a Friday. Some vendors such as DJs, bakeries and florists may also provide discounts if your wedding is on a Friday.
Set Up //
It was so, so important to me that I was able to decorate for our big day. Our venue provided us with a phenomenal maître d’, but I still wanted to have control over how things were set up (I swear I’m not a control freak, I just have a hard time delegating…that’s not a contradiction, right?). Because we were having a Friday wedding, that meant that I was able to go in on Thursday from 9-3 to decorate our space. If you have a Saturday wedding, you usually can’t get in in advance to decorate yourself. So if you are a bride like I was and wanted to be a part of set up, then this point should totally win you over.
More Time To Soak In The Day //
Our ceremony wasn’t until 6:00 o’clock in the evening, which left me the entire day to relax, get ready and soak in the day. We didn’t have to rush one bit and that really helped me in taking everything to heart and to memory that day. Your wedding day is naturally a busy day and it flies by so quickly, but having the whole day to spread everything out was such a huge help and blessing to me. From having the extra time with my bridesmaids in the morning to going to our spot where we got engaged (40 minutes away) for our first look in the late afternoon, to being able to arrive at our venue early…I cannot imagine it playing out more perfectly, and it’s all because we had the time to soak it all in.

Banks Are Open On Saturdays //
I know that sounds kind of funny, but it was really a great help to us. I had taken a few weeks off of work before the wedding for numerous reasons, which meant I didn’t have money coming in for those weeks. While Michael still was working, we wouldn’t get his next check until a week after our wedding. Having the bank open on a Saturday was convenient for us so that we could deposit some of the checks we received as gifts before we left on our honeymoon. Whereas needing to put money in the bank on a Sunday wouldn’t work since banks are not open on Sundays.
