Cleaning out your closet can seem like a daunting task…trust me, I have been there before, friends. But, over this year I have made cleaning out my closet at the end of every season a regular task and it’s not so bad anymore. Cleaning out my closet at the end of every season has helped me to be more organized and more intentional about my wardrobe.
I’m here to let you all in on some of my best tips for cleaning out your closet and making it more of a fun experience, instead of just a task. Cleaning out your closet at the end of every season will help make your life simpler, leaving you free to be.
TIPS FOR CLEANING OUT YOUR CLOSET:
1. Take Everything Out Of Your Closet & Drawers // First things first, you’ve got to take everything out of your closet and drawers. I love to pile everything on top of my bed and then start to organize from there. By taking everything out, you’re giving yourself a clean slate. With having a clean slate, you’re more likely to actually get rid of things you don’t actually need or use, and you might change up your organization style.
2. Make Separate Piles // After you’ve literally cleared everything out, set your clothes into separate piles. There are 4 main piles you should make, but you can add or subtract for your needs.
- Keep – Anything you want in your wardrobe for that season
- Keep, but store away – Anything you want to keep, regardless of the season
- Donate/Sell – Clothes that are in great condition that you don’t wear anymore
- Trash – You know those socks and odds and end pieces that are worn out
3. Do The Laundry // Have some items that you haven’t worn in awhile that need freshening? Or do you have clothes that you’re going to sell or donate? You’ve got to wash them up with all® free clear detergent or all® free clear Mighty Pacs®! all® free clear detergent fights tough stains, whitens whites, and brightens colors and removes 99% of everyday and seasonal allergens. all® free clear detergent has been my go-to for as long as I can remember, and I am never let down by them.
all® free clear detergent is the #1 detergent recommended by Dermatologists, Allergists, and Pediatricians for Sensitive Skin. It’s always nice to know that I can rely on this detergent to hit all of my needs: quality, sensitivity, and freshening. When I’m trying to do laundry while multi-tasking or on the go, I simply use all® free clear Mighty Pacs® .
Be sure to follow the directions on the packaging exactly as stated so that you can assure you’re getting the best clean, leaving you free to be!
4. Organize By Season // When you’re cleaning out your closet at the end of a season, you probably have a few different pieces in your closet that could be transitional pieces or just shouldn’t be there in a certain season. For example, come fall, there is no need for me to have dressy tank tops hung up in my closet. As we’re entering into fall, I’m starting to put my summertime pieces away and am starting to break out my sweaters and even some of my winter gear.
- Michael and I just bought some storage bins to slide under the bed for our off-season clothing. Since we still live in an apartment, it’s the best storage solution for right now.
- Our closets have a shelf above the hooks for our hangers (like most closets), so we have small storage bins for hats, scarfs, and other miscellaneous pieces.
5. Organize Your Closet By Priority // When you’re organizing your closet and drawers, it’s always best to do so by priority. For me, since my lifestyle is very casual, including work, I have my fall closet organized (right to left) by sweaters, tunics, casual tees, dressy tops, rompers, and dresses. Casual tees and sweaters will forever be my go-to for the fall time, where dresses are rather rare for me. Organizing your closet by priority will help you feel more relaxed and not so overwhelmed when deciding what to wear.
6. Organize Drawers By Clothing Pieces // After you’ve hung up the items that need to be hung, it’s then time to put away the rest of your clothing items. Thankfully it’s easier to organize your drawers, so you should be able to get everything else put away quickly.
7. Bag The Items You’re Donating Or Selling // My friend Kristen and I are going to head to Plato’s Closet and some other stores to try to sell some of our higher quality clothing, before donating to local thrift stores. The biggest thing about bagging and donating/selling is to get your bags to your car as soon as you can. If you put it off, it may never get done. Find a time slot where you’re free to get them off your hands and get it done.
Be sure to grab all® free clear detergent the next time you’re at Target. Simply swing through the cleaning supplies aisle. If you’re not sold already, I can assure that you will be once you use all® free clear detergent for yourself. Do it. Buy it today!
