Friends, I am a total kid at heart when it comes to amusement parks, and I have absolutely no shame about that! I have grown up going to amusement parks and water parks all of my life, and those days hold so many special memories to me. A day at an amusement park is a day that you’re able to let loose and simply enjoy!
I am so, so, so excited to be sharing today’s post with you all! It’s all about one of the first amusement parks I ever went to as a kid, Dorney Park. Dorney Park is located in Allentown, Pennsylvania, which is conveniently under an hour from where Michael and I live in the Poconos. It makes the perfect day trip!
My youngest sister, Corryn, and her boyfriend, Chris, came to visit Michael and I a couple weeks back. We decided it was the perfect day to head to Dorney Park, as it’s always more fun when you have some close friends and family with you!
If you follow me on Instagram, chances are you probably caught a glimpse of my day in the park, as I posted on Instagram Stories all the day long. Today, I can’t wait to share my day with you more in-depth!
The first ride we went on in the park was Musik Express! It’s a classic ride and I also consider it the perfect “warm up” ride before hoping on coasters. After that, we headed over to Sea Dragon, another classic ride. The Sea Dragon is one of my all-time favorites, as it was my favorite as a child.
We went on the Ferris Wheel a couple times throughout the day. It’s a great ride for anyone and everyone. There’s something so comforting and nostalgic about a Ferris Wheel to me, especially when looking out at the entire park.
Aren’t Corryn and Chris adorable? Love them!
I love Dorney Park for so many reasons, like their variety of rides (family to thrill), but I also love them for the friendliness of their staff and cleanliness of the entire park. They have some amazing hard workers striving to do their best every single day. Every single encounter with a park employee was so upbeat and helpful! Our entire day spent in the park, I can confidently say that I didn’t see any liter anywhere! Cleanliness in the amusement park and especially in the water park are so, so huge. It’s was such a relief knowing that we were in a clean environment.
Dorney Park is for everyone, including the young kiddos! While Michael and I don’t have any kids just yet, we’re looking forward to visiting Dorney Park when we do. They have the most adorable section of the park for kids called, “Planet Snoopy”. I love that everything is Charlie Brown themed – it’s absolutely perfect!
OUR FAVORITE RIDES:
Everyone always has a favorite ride, even if you truly enjoy them all like I do! Below are our favorite rides at Dorney Park!
- Mine: Hydra (pictured above)
- Michael: Steel Force
- Corryn: Wave Swinger
- Chris: Hydra
I’m a huge, HUGE fan of rollercoasters, and I have a great appreciation for Hydra. It’s a super smooth coaster full of loops and twists. One really unique part of Hydra is that it begins with a jojo roll as it leaves the station, before it brings you up the lift hill. It totally sets the mood for the entire ride!
My second favorite coaster was Steel Force! You’ve got to love the classic 205 foot first drop! It’s simply exhilarating and you can’t help but let out a scream! It is an awesome, must-ride coaster at Dorney Park.
After spending the majority of the day in the amusement park, we decided to go to the waterpark for a little bit. It was in the 90s that day, so it was the perfect day for a couple water slides and lounging in the pool areas. We all loved Aquablast, which is their huge family-size tube! It was a blast.
Side note (affiliate): If you’re going to a waterpark this summer or participating in anything with water this summer, I HIGHLY recommend getting these waterproof cases for your phones. They were amazing to have for not only the waterpark, but also to hold our phones secure throughout the whole day. A two-pack for just $8.99 AND they’re incredibly reliable? Yes, please.
After our time in Wildwater Kingdom, we ate dinner in the park at Chickie’s & Pete’s. It was delicious, as usual! Their fries are my favorite, but everything I’ve ever gotten from here has been delicious.
After dinner, we spent some time cooling down in the arcade. The weather was insane that day, so retreating to have some good old fashion arcade fun was just the thing to do for a little while!
The Wave Swinger is simply a classic. Don’t you agree? It ranks up near the carousel and ferris wheel for me. You can’t have an amusement park without them! Dorney Park has some of the best classics ever.
Dorney Park does not disappoint! If you’re in the Pennsylvania area, I encourage you to take a trip to Dorney Park. It makes for such a fun and freeing day. You’ll make more memories than you think! It’s been a favorite park of mine since childhood and still stays right up there on my list! 🙂
