Every blogger needs a desk space of their own where they can retreat to and get work done. What’s even more important than having this space is that every blogger should have the freedom to develop this space to reflect their heart and passion. Bloggers need a desk space that will keep them inspired and motivated through every season of blogging.
Some bloggers spend hours each day at their desks and some spend a few hours a week, but either way, this space needs to be relaxing and also one that can help them generate creativity.
I love my little office space that I have right now. It’s technically in our guest room, but I like to say the guest room is in my office. My desk space is actually quite the array of character right now. As I’m one drawn towards neutrals and earthy tones, my office space is a little more upbeat than that. I’m sure this will change one day (whenever we move), but for now, I adore my sweet retreat.
My desk space is one of my favorite spots in our apartment, and it’s one where I can always be sure to be productive. The main reason why I can always get down to the grind here is because I have all of the blogger’s essentials right at my fingertips. If my space were dull and lacking, so would my attention span be.
Whether you’re just getting started on making your desk space for the first time or are revamping your space, you always need to have the blogger’s essentials.
What are the blogger’s essentials? You’re in luck, my friend! Let’s get down to business.
10 THINGS EVERY BLOGGER NEEDS AT THEIR DESK
1. Electronics – Laptop, Phone, Tablet, Chargers //
These are obviously a no brainer, right? You need your laptop or desktop computer to be able to write out content and to connect with other bloggers and brands. The same goes for your phone. For me, I love to have my phone by my side when I’m working on my laptop for one main reason: I will check my social media channels there when I’m working, instead of switching my screen on my laptop. What’s the reason for this? So I don’t get distracted from my work. Don’t forget to have all of your charging cables nearby – they’re always important to have one hand.
2. Calendar //
Organization is key in a blogger’s life, so naturally you’ll need to have at least one calendar at your desk space. I love my little hanging one I picked up at the Target dollar section at the start of this year. For writing dates, I love my calendar on my laptop, as it syncs up with the my phone, as well. What’s your go-to kind of calendar? Simply decorative, hanging, desktop, notepad? There are tons of different calendars out there, so it shouldn’t be hard to find one that suits your needs.
3. Office Supplies //
It’s a misconception that bloggers only do work on their computers. Bloggers do a ton of work off of their computers, too! This is why it’s important to have the office supply essentials. Some items that can be wrapped into this list are: a stapler, paper clips, pens/pencils, tape, desk organizers, and washi tape. One of my favorite places to shop for office supplies like this is HomeGoods. You never know what you’ll find there and I love that.
4. Notebooks, Journals, Planners, Books //
To keep the inspiration flowing, you’ll need to have a selection of different notebooks and journals. I find that assigning each notebook or journal a different topic helps me stay organized and at ease. For example, I have one notebook where I just jot down blog post ideas and future blog goals, and then I have another where I keep track of giveaway details and notes from webinars. My favorite journal is The 52 Lists Project which is a journal of weekly lists that help nurture self-
5. Wall Art //
Wall art is hugely important when you’re designing your desk space. The wall art should be inspiring, encouraging, and motivating. There will be times where you just sit back in your chair and sigh, but when you look up and see simple reminders of truth, it makes it easier to keep on creating. You can use different prints, frames, and quirky pieces to help bring your space to life. This is where you can really have fun and make your desk space your own. Feel free to change it up every now and then, too!
6. Notepad & Notecards //
Notepads are so important to having right by your side, because they make it quick and easy for you to jot down a new idea or a reminder that you need. I am in love with my boss lady notepad that I got from The Hipster Housewife. Isn’t it darling? Notecards aren’t always on the “need to have” list for your desk space, but for me, they are. Not only do I love to accidentally collect them (thanks Target dollar section), but I also love to use them to encourage others. Whether you’re sending a quick thank you note or a note of encouragement to a friend, you need to have notecards ready to write in and send away with love.
7. Succulents & Flowers //
In order to bring your dreams to life, you need to have some life at your desk! I love having my cute little cactus on my desk. Having some flowers or a plant on your desk will better help you stay focused and make you feel upbeat. Changing them out with the seasons can help you better reflect the tone you want, too! At least, that’s how it is for me. I’m not alone in this, right?
8. Magnetic Chalkboard //
Chalkboards have been all the rave over the past few years and after picking one up, I can finally see why. Chalkboards are a great addition to your wall, as you can constantly change the quotes and images you draw on it whenever you please. I just found this chalkboard the other day and it has a perk to it – it’s magnetic! The fact that this chalkboard can have a duel purpose made me 100% sure I wanted to grab it.
9. Coffee In Cute Mugs //
DUH. Coffee will always be a need of mine, but so will cute mugs. Each day I pick my mug based on my mood. I know that may sound a bit silly, but something that simple can really help me take the extra step I need to get moving. Even if you’re not a coffee drinker and prefer tea or hot cocoa, you need to have a selection of darling mugs to choose from.
10. Candles //
If you don’t know by now, I’m obsessed with candles. Not only do they smell amazing, but they can also help light a room with comfort. Candles can help you retreat and relax. Whenever I feel stressed, I just light a candle and take a few deep breaths. Has anyone been here before?
One of my favorite go-to candles is the Black Raspberry Vanilla scent from Kristin’s Treasures. Kristin is one of the most passionate souls I know in the blogging world and I love that outside her blog she’s also pursuing her creativity with her online shop. In her shop she has some prints and jewelry, as well as her adorable mason jar candles. Her candles can be custom ordered in different colors and scents, which makes it easy to find the exact one for you! Kristin prides herself in making quality candles that have a long burn time, so that you can enjoy them to their fullest. They are the perfect size, making it easy to add to any desk space. Be sure to head over to Kristin’s Treasures and order one for your desk space!
