It has been quite a while since I last chatted about Twitter and why I think it’s one of the best social media platforms not only in general, but for bloggers specifically. There are a ton of bloggers I know who for some reason hate Twitter with a passion. I could never really wrap my mind around why, since it’s been such a great platform for me in not only growing my blog, but my social media presence as a whole. My mission is to get the bloggers who passionately hate Twitter to reconsider using it and then hopefully, having them become passionate about it. If that’s you, please read all of my point with an open mind and open heart!
5 REASONS WHY BLOGGERS SHOULD USE TWITTER:
1. Drive Traffic To Your Blog //
Let’s be real, aside from the social side of social media, as bloggers we use it to promote our content! It’s important to us that we get our work out there so that as many people as possible can see it. Believe it or not, Twitter is my third highest traffic referrer, and has been for quite a while. While I have always loved Twitter, I was honestly shocked to learn that it brings me this amount of traffic, and I’m not someone who is constantly promoting my content, either! Whenever I have a new post go live, I schedule 2-3 tweets to go out throughout the day. Other than that, I share archived content here and there to keep things fresh.
Twitter hasn’t always been in my top three traffic referrers. What really helped me grow my Twitter to get it to be such a great traffic referrer for me is that I not only focused on forming a strategy, but more importantly I focused on growing like-minded connections with other bloggers and creatives. Once you develop a Twitter strategy that works for you and form relationship with other bloggers on Twitter, I promise you’ll see results.
2. Networking & Further Growing Your Community //
Twitter has got to be one of my favorite social platforms because that’s all it is – social! Sometimes I feel like Twitter is just one huge text conversation going on between me and community, which makes it all that more enjoyable for me. Twitter helps you grow your community more than any other social platform, because it’s all about conversation. I find that people share more personal things (funny and serious) on Twitter than on Facebook or Pinterest. My reason for believing people do this is because Twitter just cultivates a sense of community from the start. This is why developing your Twitter will make the perfect extension for your blogging community! It’s a great way to not only have conversations, but it’s a great way to ask your audience questions and to take polls.
Twitter is also huge for networking, which is really important to always be striving to do when you’re a blogger, creative, or entrepreneur. Twitter is naturally set up as a networking tool, which makes it simple to follow and connect with those you’re interesting in working with or are just want to follow along with.

3. Real-Time Engagement //
As Facebook and Instagram are forever changing their algorithms to the point where you don’t see all of your communities posts and content, Twitter rarely changes theirs. At the start of the year they did implement a slight algorithm change where they show popular tweets first, but other than that, everything is real-time. With real-time decreasing more and more on social media as a whole, I want to grab hold of all of the real-time engagement and conversation I can have! Isn’t that what social media is about, anyway?
The special thing about real-time engagement is that everything is all about relevancy. This is another reason why taking polls and asking questions is a great way to grow community on Twitter, even if you’re just asking what kind of ice cream you should get!

4. Twitter Chats //
Twitter chats are SO important for bloggers to join in with! If you’re not familiar with what they are or need help learning about participating, check out my post here. Twitter chats are all about connecting with like-minded and like-hearted passionate people, which makes Twitter chats not only fun, but also a great place to learn. I have made so many awesome relationships with bloggers and creatives I have meet through Twitter chats, and I know you will, too. Not sure where to get started? 5. Sharing Content & Growing Together //
I know I probably sound like a broke record here, but sharing other bloggers’ content is so important to do. Bloggers need other bloggers to thrive! We’re in this together, which is why we need to be building each other up, and sharing others’ content is a great, easy way to do that. If you’re tweeting out an original tweet about their post, always tag them in it! Don’t be scared to retweet others’, too!
This also ties into growing your traffic to your blog. When other people share your content on Twitter, more people are brought to your blog. The best part? It works both ways! Share away!
