In October, I decided to try my first makeup subscription box and I chose Julep Maven to be the lucky number one! I was very satisfied with my first box from them and I was thrilled to share it with you a few weeks ago. Today, I’m sharing what I received in my second box, as well as if I’m making the decision to stay with them or try another makeup subscription box.
The really neat thing about box number two was that I had gotten to choose the items I wanted in my box. As a Maven, you have up to a certain date in the month to customize your box if you choose to. Isn’t that pretty cool? You get to pick what you’re actually interested in, instead of possibly getting a product that you’re not going to use.
So, what did I choose to have in my November box? I chose a lipgloss, a nail polish, and a blush stick.
This is the lipgloss I chose for my box. This shade is called Splendid, which is a sheer heirloom rose shimmer shade. Normally, I’m not a huge lipgloss lover at all. In fact, I can’t remember the last time I devotedly used a lipgloss before this one. What I love about this lipgloss is that its color actually shows up on my lips and it hydrates my lips well. It’s definitely a new go-to of mine in my lip color pocket of my purse.
I am a nail polish addict. Whenever I’m in Target or a drugstore, I always end up wandering over to the nail polish selection. So, how could I not add another shade to my collection? Right? I had to do it. The nail polish shade I chose is called Josephine, which is a deep teal grey. I am absolutely in love with this shade! It’s the perfect polish for the cooler months. I was so happy to just have to use one coat to get the job done, and I was even happier that it dried quickly. Would I recommend this nail polish over any other kind of nail polish, like OPI or Essie? Probably not. They’re about the same in quality, in my opinion.
Now on to the blush stick! This was the product I was most excited to try out, especially since I had never used a blush stick before. The shade I chose was Golden Guava, because I felt out of the four shades I could chose from that it’d be the best for my skin tone. The first time I tried it out, I wasn’t sure if I liked it. I applied it properly and all, but I just wasn’t a fan of how sparkly it was. I knew it’d have a little shimmer, but it was overly sparkly for me. I did really like how soft and smooth it went on and stayed on my cheeks that first day, though. So I thought I’d try a few different methods to give it another chance. When I added a light layer of a powder blush over top, it helped dilute the crazy sparkle that it had. The result? I’m really loving it this way. The neat thing about their blush sticks is that it’s versatile, so you can use it on you eyes and lips, too.
It’s now time for the moment of truth. Am I going to stay with Julep for another month? No, I’m not. Am I done with Julep forever? Not sure yet! Sadly, I have had a few terrible experiences with their customer service, which is a super bummer since their products are absolutely awesome. But if I’m going to pay $24.99 a month for a subscription box, I would hope that exceptional customer service would be a part of that price.
That leaves me with one more question to answer. Am I going to try another makeup subscription box? Yes, I am! Which one? Well, you’ll just have to wait and see! Or if you want a sneak peak, you can add me on Snapchat: summertelban, as I’ll be unboxing it on there.
