The title says it all… SURPRISE! Baby #2 is on the way! I still can’t believe it. Taya is going to be a big sister!
The past couple of months have been a whirlwind for me. I was getting my body back and starting to feel like myself again. I had just got done weaning Taya (we made it 17 months of breastfeeding!) and a few days later, I got a strong positive pregnancy test. Talk about some crazy emotions all in a week, haha. We are so excited for this new baby to join us in early April!
I’ll be creating a lot of pregnancy updates and content on TikTok throughout my pregnancy, so make sure you’re following me there! @SummerTelban
DUE DATE: April 10th.
HOW FAR ALONG AM I: I am 14 weeks pregnant today!
FINDING OUT THE GENDER? Yes! In fact, we already know. We’ll be sharing soon.
AM I SHOWING YET? Not yet! Though, the end of the day bloat is real, haha. I have been able to clearly feel that baby has risen out from behind my pelvic bone for over a week now. With this being my second pregnancy, I think it’s so cool that I’m able to notice and feel body changes sooner.
FIRST TRIMESTER RECAP
I found out I was pregnant at 4 weeks pregnant and the morning sickness and nausea started right up at 5 weeks pregnant. It started earlier than it did when I was pregnant with Taya. I will say that overall, my morning sickness has been milder than it was with Taya. At first, I wasn’t sure if it actually was milder this time or if it was just the fact that I knew what methods (i.e. sea-bands, waking up slowly) worked for me in feeling better. I think my morning sickness is starting to ease up a good bit now, which would be amazing! I still get nauseous quite a bit, though.
Baby #2 is looking healthy and strong – growing perfectly. We are so grateful. I had my first ultrasound when I was 8 weeks pregnant and I just had another one (NT scan) at 13 weeks. This baby is a mover! Just like how Taya was, haha. Very active! I’m going to have my hands full… in the best way!
Now that I have finally gotten all of my intake appointments out of the way, I’m finally able to start seeing the midwives at the practice I go to. I adored all of the midwives I had appointments with during my third trimester with Taya, so I knew I wanted to go the midwives track as early as possible this pregnancy. Midwives view birth as natural, not medical. They will advocate alongside me for what I want during my pregnancy, as well as during labor and delivery. This is extremely important to me, especially as I’m hoping to have my dream labor and delivery this time – unmedicated with no unnecessary medical intervention.
I got a doppler for this pregnancy and it’s been the best thing for me. I love hearing sweet baby #2’s heartbeat. It instantly soothes me. Baby’s heart rate has been consistently above 160 bpm.
I swear I’ve been feeling flutters since about 11 weeks pregnant when laying on my stomach… which is crazy! At first, I thought it was too early to feel flutters. But with this being my second pregnancy and the fact that I’m petite, it makes sense that I can feel flutters early this time. I felt them at 15 weeks with Taya.
Taya has been the sweetest thing. She’s obviously too young to understand that she’s about to have a sibling, but I swear she senses something. She’s been so much more snuggly and affectionate. If I have to run to the bathroom to throw up, she’s right behind me to be there for me. She literally hugs my back and pats my head, because she knows mama doesn’t feel well. Sweet girl has some strong empathy already! That’s my girl. 🥺 She’s going to be an amazing big sister.
