No-Sew Pet Teepee Bed

The entire process of moving into our home has been so joyful, but it’s also been stressful. Juniper, our sweet cat, has definitely been able to sense all the feels and emotions we’ve been having over the past month. The night we brought her over to the new house, we were slightly worried she’d be overwhelmed. We introduced her to the guest room first. The second Mike opened the door of the guest room to go get something, Juniper snuck out with him. We were so glad that she was eager to explore her new home. She was so funny – sniffing all around with her little nose and tiptoeing downstairs to the first level. She is loving our new home!

It’s really important to Michael and me that Juniper is always comfortable, happy, and healthy. With transitions that can be stressful, like moving, we give her extra love and attention, so that she’s assured that all is well. Since she’s been an amazing sport and support during this time, I wanted to make something special for her… a teepee bed!

Juniper loves snuggling up on the couch, bed, and windowsills, but she loves little hideout spots even more. I thought that a teepee bed would be perfect for her, as it’s cozy and sheltered. It turns out that she loves it! Juniper loves following us around the house, so I made the teepee bed easy to transport from room to room. This way, she can camp out wherever we’re at in the house.

While Juniper’s new bed was important to us, her diet and what she eats is of way more important to us. Honestly, I head to PetSmart whenever I’m nearby because I just can’t resist treating our sweet Juniper. PetSmart’s staff is always helpful and pointing me in the direction of whatever I need. If I’m unsure of what to get Juniper, they’ll help me figure it out. The expertise of the staff at PetSmart is outstanding. Oh, did I mention that I love being able to see the other pets that customers bring in? It’s the best.

Needless to say, Juniper is loving her new food. When Juniper is happy and healthy, we’re happy!

DIY PET TEEPEE (NO SEW!) TUTORIAL:

WHAT YOU’LL NEED:

5 Wooden Dowels (we used 36-inch dowels)
Jute Twine
Drop Cloth/Fabric
Scissors
Glue Gun & Hot Glue
Power Drill
Blanket/Pet Bed/Pillow

STEP ONE: Drill holes in the top of each dowel. We went just about 3 inches down and drilled. This is where the twine will wrap through. It’s way more sturdy this way than simply wrapping the twine around.

STEP TWO: Use the twine to intertwine into each of the dowels. Once they’re together and in the place where you want them, tie a knot at the end of the twine like shown in the photo above. It’s okay if there’s a little excess.

STEP THREE: Tie the twine around the dowel 10-15 times (or your preference) to really hold the dowels in place. Make sure you secure tightly.

STEP FOUR: Drape the drop cloth or fabric around the dowels, right under where the twine is. Figure out where you want the fabric to lay and make sure there’s not too much extra fabric at where the opening will be – this is dependent on how big or small you choose to make the teepee.

I ended up choosing just a paint drop cloth. I love the natural color and texture of it, especially since it’ll fit into the rest of the decor in our home.

STEP FIVE: Once you’re happy with the fit of the fabric over the dowels, plug in your hot glue gun. Once it’s good to go, glue the top parts together where the fabric meets. Again, depending on the size of your teepee, you may need to glue more or less than I did.

STEP SIX: Depending on how much excess fabric there is, you can either cut it off or roll it underneath. I decided to roll it.

STEP SEVEN: Put a blanket, pillow, or tiny pet bedding inside the teepee. We chose to use a pillow. Then, decorate it to your heart’s content if you’d like to. I decided to keep it plain, as I love the simplistic look of it. Though, I’m sure I’ll put a pet-friendly garland up in a couple of weeks for the holidays!

AND THAT’S A WRAP! Isn’t it easy? I love that it’s no-sew. It took me about an hour to make, but it was totally worth it. The entire time we were making it, Juniper was so intrigued, haha. She’s a cutie! Juniper loves her little hideout spot!
