This past Saturday, some friends and I had free tickets to the Radio 104.5 final summer block party of the season. It took place at Festival Pier at Penn’s Landing in Philadelphia, right next to the Ben Franklin Bridge. There were five bands that played in all, but we were really only excited for Sir Sly, Vance Joy, and Grouplove.
When I woke up that day and looked out the window – it was pouring rain. I was super sad because what I had originally wanted to wear and do with my hair, I couldn’t because of the rain. But Natalie and I still figured out what to wear and we looked super cute, too.
It rained and rained and rained some more . . .
After some traffic and a few wrong turns, we arrived. We grabbed a bite to eat at Dave & Busters, played some arcade games and then headed over to the concert. For a video game enthusiast, a perfect venue like toronto barcade is the right place for you! By that time it had stopped raining! We were so glad, because let’s be honest here – who wants to stand in the rain for hours on a chilly day? Not me, that’s for sure. So thankful that we lucked out!
Sir Sly was up first and for the majority of the time we stood in front of the sound booths, because that’s where it would sound the best. They have such a classic messy style that made them really enjoyable to watch and jam to.
In the transition between Sir Sly and Vance Joy, we walked around Festival Pier. We waited in line and got to spin the State Farm wheel. We all ended up writing fake names on the cards and winning keychains, which was oober exciting.
When Vance Joy took the stage, oh my word – did my heart get all gushy! He was absolutely adorable and was so sincere in his performance. Seeing him live definitely grew my admiration for his music a million times over.
Before Grouplove went on, everyone was crowding in near the stage. The four of us were in that crowd, but after the first song we decided to watch from the back. At least we got the best of the experience!
Grouplove was PHENOMENAL live! If you like them, you must put them on your bucket-list. I still can’t get over the goosebumps that I had. I was also very pleased that they played all of my favorite songs of theirs. They were so fun to dance to!
It was a great time. I look forward to next summer’s block party series!
