Hey there, friends! Happy Friday! As I was reviewing some results from my reader survey a few weeks ago, I noticed some of you want me to share some more about myself here on Coffee With Summer. At first I was on the fence about sharing random “about me” type posts, as I’m trying my best to be consistent with what I write about. But authenticity and being real is my main mission with my blog, so I figured it would just makes sense to share a post like this once in awhile!
I am very excited to be sharing more about who I am by telling a bit about where I came from, as well as some random facts about me.
First, let me introduce myself.
I’m Summer! I’m a 23-year-old wife to my darling husband Michael, the blogger behind Coffee With Summer, and a devoted follower of Jesus Christ. I am a nanny to preteen twins, a dance instructor, and a complete coffee snob. I am passionate about authenticity, intentionality, truth, and grace. I’m learning to never shut myself off from growth and to own every moment of my becoming.
I was born in East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, was brought up in the town of Webster, Massachusetts, and ended up in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania for college. I am the oldest of three girls and we’re all about 2 years apart from each other. I love my sisters to death and they’re two of my best friends. I have learned so much growing up about family, selflessness, and persevering despite all odds.
Growing up, my greatest passion was dancing. My mother decided to enroll me in my first dance class when I was 4-years-old, as I was always twirling around the house, wanting to be a ballerina. Basically, I was dancing ever since I could walk. By the 3rd grade, I competed in my first dance competition ever and completely fell in love with the energy of it all. By the 4th grade, I had my first solo as a competitive dancer to an old jazz song called, Le Jazz Hot. Fun fact: I still remember a good portion of that dance…and that was a very long time ago! The dance studio was my second home, even though I was there more than I was at home. Dance for me has always been about escaping into a positive outlet to express both the joys and pains of life. I could go on and on, but I’ll save that for another time.
For college, I chose to go to the University of Valley Forge where I studied Youth Ministry and Bible. My time there wasn’t exactly the most pleasant at times, but it definitely grew me as a person and as a believer of Jesus. Finances were always a struggle, but somehow God still kept me there. He provided for me in ways that most would think was impossible. But with God, nothing is impossible. Unlike most of my college friends who got to go to school full-time, I had to go to school part-time, as I had to work two jobs in order to pay my way. It wasn’t easy. I was also a member of two dance ministry teams: a contemporary dance ministry that I helped found with some great friends my freshman year and a hip-hop dance team.
One of the best things about college for me was that I met my husband there. Michael and I met my second year there and started dating about a month and half after meeting each other. Call us weird, but we knew we were going to get married when we started dating. After all, the whole point of dating is to get married. We got got engaged after dating for two years and were married just seven months after getting engaged. I am beyond blessed to have such a great husband who loves and supports me. This month we’ll be together for a total of 4 years! It’s crazy how time flies by.
