Michael and I love hosting guests at our apartment as often as we can. We love our friends and we consider them to be family! Being able to have conversations and getting to know each other more is always so much fun, especially in the comfort of our own home. While going out with friends is fun, there’s just something more personal about staying in and hanging out with them. Whether we’re hosting dinner and a movie or we’re just having friends over for coffee, we simply love having people over.
While there are tons of reasons why I love hosting guests, there is one thing about hosting that isn’t so fun…cleaning up! C’mon, I know you’re with me!
After having friends over for a dinner party or for drinks, the last thing you want to do when they leave is clean up. You’re either all hyped up from having a good time or you’re exhausted from laughing so much.
After running into this dilemma after hosting time and time again, I finally came up with some good tips and a order to help ease the distress of cleaning up after hosting guests.
TIPS & ORDER TO CLEAN UP QUICKLY AFTER HOSTING:
1. START WITH A CLEAN SLATE //
In order to be a good host, you have to first start off with a clean home! You have to make sure the bathroom is well cleaned and that every room the guests will be in are tidy and well kept. You’ve got to make sure the dishes are done, the throw pillows are set, and that the entire place smells great. When you start with a clean and tidy home before hosting, it should be able to save you a huge amount of time when it comes to cleaning after guest leave. Starting with a clean home means that you have to plan accordingly, so plan in advance. If you decide to have others over on a whim, quickly pick up as much as you can beforehand.
2. CLEAN UP RIGHT AFTER THE GUESTS LEAVE //
If you use excuses upon excuses to ignore the dishes or the vacuuming that’s needed, it can possibly end up sitting there for a day or two. This is never fun. Devote yourself to cleaning up right after your guests leave. It will save you so much stress. I promise.
3. SOAK THE DISHES THAT NEED SOAKING //
I don’t know about you, but one of my biggest excuses when avoiding the dishes after hosting guests for dinner is that I need to let them soak. To avoid this dilemma, be sure to put the dishes into the sink as you’re finished with them to let them soak. If you forget to do this when guests are over, no worries! Just simply soak the dishes before you get the rest of your cleaning done.
4. THROW OUT & TAKE OUT ANY TRASH //
After you get the dishes soaking, pick up any trash and throw it away. This should be super fast for you to do. If the trash is containing anything that will smell easily, you’ll definitely want to bring the trash out instead of letting it sit inside all night. This part of the pick up is super quick and easy!
5. WIPE DOWN ANY SURFACES //
After the quick trash clean up is taken care of, wipe down any surfaces that you used – kitchen table or island, coffee bar, stove, or counter top. Now it’s time for the best part of the night – the last thing you need to do before you unwind for the rest of the day. Dishes!
