Over the past couple of years, I have really grown to appreciate succulents and the character they can add to a room or an outdoor space. I currently have one on my desk and one in my window above my kitchen sink. One day when we own a house, I can guarantee I’ll have a little collection of them going outside, as well. I love them because they’re fairly easy to take care of and because they can add to any living space.
Since we’re easing into sweet summertime here in Eastern Pennsylvania, I thought it’d be fun to get a couple friends together to have a small picnic in the park. While we were there, we created our own succulents planters. I wanted to share how I created mine with you all, because it was so simple, anyone could do it!
HOW TO PLANT SUCCULENTS IN A POT:
Before we get into the simple tutorial, here were all of the necessities I needed to get this project done right! Simple and fun!
- Succulents
- Pot with a drainage whole
- Pot dish
- Soil
- Spoons
- Mesh tape
- New Hawaiian Tropic® Silk Hydration Weightless Lotion Sunscreen Pump
Step 1 // Put a small amount of mesh tape over the drainage hole at the bottom of the pot. This will help prevent soil from leaking out of the pot, but it will still have the excess water drain out properly. If your pot does not have a drainage hole, put some pebbles that the bottom of the pot, so that the roots of the succulents aren’t sitting directly in water.
Step 2 // Fill the pot with a potting soil up to about an inch or two away from the top of the pot. You can use a succulent potting soil or really any quick draining soil. You could even make your own if you wanted to. It’s important that the roots have a platform to sit on, instead of being at the very bottom of the pot.
Step 3 // Gently remove the previous potting soil from the roots of the succulents the best that you can. Once you do so, place the succulent where you’d best like it in the pot. Repeat this step as many times as you’d like.
Step 4 // After placing your succulents in the pot, double check that they’re spaced out appropriately and that they’ll be secure in the soil in the spot you chose for them.
Step 5 // Fill in the succulents with more potting soil, but be sure to not pack the soil tight. Succulents need loose soil, so that the water can flow more easily through it.
Step 6 // Water your new succulents and bring them home to a special place where they’ll have enough light in a great environment.

Are you someone who is constantly out in the sun for long periods of time during the summer? I have got some quick tips on how to make sure you’re tending to your skincare protection properly.
QUICK TIPS FOR PROLONGED SUN TIME:
- When choosing a SPF to use, there are a few things you need to consider like: how long you’ll be in the sun, what activities you’re going to be doing, and what the UV index is for the day. Most importantly, you need to know what your skin type is and pick an SPF that best caters to it.
- Always be sure to reapply sunscreen every 2 hours or immediately after swimming or sweating to help keep your skin protected the entire time you’re in the sun.
- After being out in the sun all day, be sure to deeply hydrate your skin.
- Keep your eye out and make sure that others are keeping properly protected, as well. Have everyone’s back and make sure they’re educated on proper skincare protection for the summertime.
