If you’ve been keeping up with me at all this summer, you already know that I have been pretty much on-the-go the entire summer. To be honest, I’m loving it! It feels so good to have had and still have so many plans, especially since this past year and a half has been a crazy one. The past year and a half, Michael and I have moved, bought a house, and have been working like crazy. To be able to take some time this summer to explore and rest has been so good for me. I’m so thankful that I’m having my best summer yet!
Ever since Michael and I bought our house, most of our focus on our days off (when we actually get them) is spent focusing on the house. Whether it’s small projects inside the house or work out in the yard, we’ve been going non-stop. But! We have still made time for ourselves to do some fun things, even if it’s just spending time together doing our favorite activities.
Michael and I love being outdoors in the summertime, even if it’s super hot and humid like it’s been here in the mountains. We love spending time with friends playing sports and we love going for walks in our quiet neighborhood. Myself? I really enjoy hiking and have finally been getting more into it again.
Needless to say, really, we’ve both figured out how to rest and recover after a long day of work or a long day out being active. Today, I’m sharing what works for us! I hope some of these ideas and tips will work for you, too!
I am all about athletic wear, even if it’s just for dressing comfortably! This has been one of my go-to outfits for all things active, running errands, and for just hanging around. This tee is perfect to wear if you know you’re doing to be working up a sweat. These shorts? These are the best compression shorts I have ever owned. Seriously – all so comfortable.
5 TIPS FOR RECOVERING AFTER A LONG DAY:
1. Take 15 – 30 Minutes For Alone Time // When Michael gets home from work he loves to have some time alone to unwind. I totally get it! Even though I work from home, I’m the same way. On the weekends, we keep things the same. It’s like a natural habit for us now. If we’ve been out being active with friends, whether that’s hiking or kayaking, the second we get home we retreat into a little alone time. It’s really nice. By taking 15 – 30 minutes to yourself, you’re allowing yourself to regroup and refuel.
2. Get Your Workout On // Even after spending a day out, I love to come home and workout. It’s something I’ve been trying to make a habit all summer long. My go-to workout usually consists of some cardio, core strength, and dancing. I’m a dancer, so naturally, that’s what my body takes to more for exercise. I have also been pushing myself to do some basic weight training and even though my muscles are sore from it, I have been loving it!
3. We Grill Out // Once the warmer weather comes around, Michael breaks out our grill and gets to work, haha. He loves grilling! And you know what? I love when he grills. One of our go-to meals in the summertime is lemon & garlic marinated chicken and grilled corn on the cob! It’s healthy and delicious!
Lemon & Garlic Marinated Chicken
- We use chicken breast and marinade it in our favorite lemon & garlic marinade. We marinade the chicken anywhere from 4 hours to a day – delicious either way! Then Michael grills it to perfection.
Grilled Corn On The Cob
- We place the corn in the husks on the grill, close the cover, and grill them for 15 – 20 minutes.
- Remove the husks & enjoy!
- Grilled corn on the cob is my favorite way to eat corn. Grilling the corn this way adds so much flavor to the point you don’t even need to add butter.
- We will sometimes squeeze a lime over the corn for an extra added hint of flavor.
Grilling is a ton of fun and it’s the perfect way to end any summertime day.
4. Engage In Good Conversation // One of my favorite ways to unwind after a long day out is to talk about my day. Whether that’s just with Michael or some friends, it’s always fun to share about my adventures and to hear other people’s stories, too. Good conversation isn’t just fun, but it’s also about learning and growing as a person.
Tying into my last point – grilling is a great way to start a conversation. Some of my favorite summer nights have been spent grilling and hanging out with some of my favorite people.
5. Go To Bed Early // There’s nothing more satisfying than having an active day out, eating well, and then going to bed early. Even if you’re a night owl you should try and go to bed early when you’re able to. I’m definitely night owl but I find it so rewarding when I can actually go to sleep early.
There you have it – my tips on how to recover after a long summer day! Whether you’re recovering from work or a day out playing sports with friends, grilling is always the way to go! What ways that you unwind after a long summer day? What are your favorite pieces from adidas? Let’s chat!
