I am a huge advocate of always striving to see the good in what’s deemed ugly or unwanted in the eyes of the world. I believe that every situation can be turned around for good, and that in that, lives are forever changed. I have a huge heart for small businesses that strive to be part of that chain-reaction of goodness. Small businesses who are always wanting to give back and make positive differences in people’s lives just give me such joy, and that’s why I’m introducing you to The Artful Sojourn.
“Bringing hope to the impoverished and caring for orphans around the world through unique, handcrafted jewelry.”
The Artful Sojourn specializes in handmade, bohemian style jewelry with a social mission. They’re all about living a life that is for more than themselves. The Artful Sojourn donates 20% of their profits to care for and support orphans in India through the charitable nonprofit, Big World Project.
Meet Lisa, the founder and heartbeat of The Artful Sojourn.
– HOW IT ALL STARTED –
Three years ago, Lisa felt called by the Lord to go on a mission trip. To raise her funds to go, she started making and selling jewelry, just like bagues. Through that experience she realized how great of a passion she had for designing and creating things with her hands. She thought it was amazing that she got to do what she loved to further the kingdom of God. Lisa knew that she wanted to continue designing jewelry in the future, even if it was just on the side. Never in a million years would she have guessed that it would become her career after graduating college, and even more so, leading her to travel to India! The meaning behind the name The Artful Sojourn is based on what God was really impressing on Lisa’s heart at the time, and since then, has also become her life motto. Life on earth is short. As Christians, we know that this earth isn’t out home; this making us sojourners here. With only a brief time before we go to our home in Heaven, she is convicted to make the most of her short time here. Lisa wants to spend her time making a difference, living a life more than for herself and using the talents that God has given her to invest back into His kingdom, for His glory.
The Big World Project came and spoke at Lisa’s church, explaining their ministry of starting orphanages in India. That’s when the day-to-day battle orphans face really captured her heart, and that’s when she knew that she wanted to use her passion and talent in creating jewelry to help rescue more orphans off the streets in India; to give them a home and to care for their physical, spiritual and emotional needs. The Artful Sojourn donates 20% of every sale to this mission through Big World Project.
– UPCOMING TRIP TO INDIA –
God has placed an amazing opportunity in front of The Artful Sojourn to be able to go to India this June. Lisa will be leaving for India on June 12th for two weeks to minister to a group of women and to teach them how to produce some of The Artful Sojourn jewelry designs. She’ll be working with women on the outskirts of Hyderabad where poverty is prevalent and illiteracy is high, as well as there being inadequate healthcare and sanitation concerns. The most disadvantaged people in Indian society are women, and The Artful Sojourn will be able to pour into their lives by providing for them a sustainable living, in a safe work environment for them and their children. Not only will these good things come about, but this opportunity is also going to provide open doors for them to hear the Gospel, and to receive encouragement to become the beautiful creations that God has intended for them to be.
Join me in prayer for Lisa’s trip to India and for the hearts of the women she’ll be investing into to be opened and ready for the Good News. You can also join me in supporting The Artful Sojourn by purchasing a wonderfully designed piece of jewelry to wear in supporting their mission.
