A busy yet balanced life is what I have been living this summer! I have been traveling and have been on-the-go pretty much all summer long and while it’s been exhausting, it has been even more rewarding. My heart always feels so full when I travel. Most of my traveling has been done by mini road trips this summer. While I really enjoy flying to places I can’t drive to, there’s just something about a summer road trip that fills my soul.
My most recent road trip was spent alone going back home to Massachusetts to spend time with friends and family. I have taken many road trips alone back home and I used to think they were so boring. Over the past 7 years, with many trips back and forth, I have finally found some ways to survive road trips alone! I’m going to be sharing them with you today. 🙂
4 TIPS TO SURVIVE A ROAD TRIP ALONE:
1. Prep Your Car Ahead Of Time // Whether you’re going on a pretty long road trip or one that’s only 3-4 hours, you want to be sure to prep your car ahead of time. You should check the oil and get an oil change if your car is due. You should also fill up with gas and have an emergency kit with you. For my emergency kit, I have a battery jump starter, jumper cables, and some tools. You always want to over-prep for a road trip since they do take a toll on your car and you never know what could happen.
2. Pack Healthy Snacks // Snacks are an absolute essential for just about everything but especially for road trips alone! Right? My go-to healthy snack of the summer has been these delicious whole natural almonds. When I’m busy, particularly during the summer months, having healthy, smart food choices in a snap is a necessity. I always reach for almonds because they’re a quick and convenient snack that can be easily taken with me wherever I go. They’re a quick way to feel full when I’m hungry on-the-go and helps me avoid the not-so-healthy fast food options while on the road.
I actually have an adorable snack-size container that is perfect for carrying a snack-size portion of almonds in my purse at all times, which is great for traveling alone.
Almonds have the protein and fiber that you need to power through the day without increasing calorie intake. Winning! Almonds are also an amazing source of antioxidant vitamin E and magnesium, as well as calcium, potassium, and more. Want another great fact about almonds? They’re naturally gluten-free and cholesterol-free.
Seriously, though. If you’re someone who’s always traveling or just on-the-go in general, you’ve got to keep a stash of almonds on-hand at all times. Almonds are snacks that have protein, fiber, and healthy fat but are low in sugar will keep you energized and curb your hunger to ensure you won’t make poor choices later in the day. If you don’t already have some, you need to!
3. Start Your Drive In The Morning // When I’m going on a road trip, especially if I’m alone, it’s an absolute must for me to start my drive in the morning. I’m sure to get a good night’s sleep the night before so I can be on the road early in the morning. Traveling later in the day, like in the afternoon or evening, can be rough on you when you’re alone since you’ve been awake during the majority of the day at that point. This could lead to you being more tired and even exhausted, and it’s never good to be driving a long distance at that point. You want to be 100% alert and not drowsy at all.
4. Have A Playlist Ready To Go // Music, music, music… there’s nothing like having your own solo concert in your car, am I right? Music is one of the most entertaining things for me when driving at any time, but especially during long trips alone. I have no shame – I totally sing along to every song on my playlist. 😉 Rock tunes, indie tunes… I have it all on my list. Music really helps the whole trip go by faster.
I know many people are into podcasts now, too. So, if that’s your thing, definitely have some podcasts lined up to listen to.
Music and podcasts are both fun to listen to and they also get your mind going. Both so healthy!
