I know most of you already know that I’m very passionate about blogging and the social media world, as they help to form connections and relationships. I have been actively pursing social media more than the average person for years now, which is why I have side gigs as a social media manager. Something that most of you don’t know is that my husband Michael is into media, too! Michael actually isn’t big into social media at all (which is where I step in), but he’s huge into live production and is beyond passionate about it.
Michael is blessed enough to pursue his passion for media and music almost every day of the week, as his job is being the Coordinator of Music & Media in the youth department of our church. One of the reasons why he loves his work is because he not only gets to dive deeper into his passions, but he also gets to help develop students who are interested in music and media, as well.
Going to brag on my husband for a moment here, but Michael knows how to do everything and most importantly, he knows how to do everything well. A little background on him: He played the keyboard for a touring worship team for 3 summers throughout college. He also has background knowledge of other instruments like drums and guitar. In college, he studied Digital Media which covers everything from photography to video, and almost everything in between. Everything in this area just comes to easy to him and even though it does, he still has the most humble spirit and heart. Michael is basically the handyman for all things tech related!
Our church is pretty big for our area and the youth department alone has about 400 students in it. Every Sunday there are two services held for the youth department, and both have full production that’s appropriate for a Sunday service. Full production means a worship team, sound, lighting, and video.
Since Michael is the Coordinator of Music & Media, he’s in charge of getting everything ready to go for every Sunday. From preparing the stage and the graphics that’ll be on the screens, to gathering volunteers for media production, to preparing the worship team…he does it all. In order for Michael to be able to get everything done and not buckle under the pressure, there are some top necessities that he needs to survive live production. Today, I’m giving you a little sneak peak behind-the-scenes of what a typical Sunday looks like for Michael.
WHAT MY HUSBAND NEEDS TO SURVIVE A LIVE PRODUCTION:
1. A Clean Office/Media Room //
Michael’s office is also the media room, where some of the media volunteers run lyrics and direct video during service times. It is so important for this space to be clean, as it’s a very active workspace in the middle of live production times. It only takes a few minutes to clear all of the unnecessary items off of this space, but it’s still super crucial that it’s taken care of.
2. Reliable Media Volunteers //
While Michael can do everything, it’s impossible for him to do everything at once! This is why he needs to have media volunteers that he knows he can count on no matter what. The majority of these volunteers are students themselves, so it’s a great leadership and learning opportunity for them. On a typical Sunday, there are probably about 6-8 media volunteers for each service. There would be no way the media portion of service would run if it weren’t the help of his media volunteers. They seriously rock.
3. SToK™ Cold-Brew Iced Coffee //
You all know I’m a coffee fan, but let me tell you, Michael is just as much as a coffee fanatic as I am! He’s always got a cup of SToK™ Cold-Brew Iced Coffee in hand as he tackles every goal each Sunday. SToK™ is the brand of thoroughly geeked-out coffee that provides an elevated, coffee-forward experience, which is exactly what Michael needs on a Sunday morning to go hard after his passions. SToK™ is strong and bold, both in flavor and in character. It’s slow brewed to perfection! As Michael’s passions of music and media are creative and upbeat, it only makes sense for him to drink a coffee that is all about a creative coffee experience.
I love that I can pick up SToK™ Cold-Brew Iced Coffee on our way to the church, as we conveniently pass Walmart on the way. You can find SToK™ Cold-Brew Iced Coffee in the refrigerated aisle!
4. His Wife’s Support (Hey! That’s me!) //
As I was asking Michael what some of his top needs for a Sunday are, he told me that having support is one of the most important things to him. As I’m his wife, I want to always be encouraging him to pursue his passions and dreams, not holding him back form achieving them. He supports my passions and I support his. We support each other! Knowing that he has me to vent to or to pray with when he needs me helps him feel secure.
As you can see, live production is no easy task. There is a lot of work and a ton of effort put into making a service, event, or even a concert great. That’s a wrap for the behind-the-scenes of a regular Sunday for my husband!
