Now that the weather is finally warmer here in Pennsylvania, my husband and I are looking forward to many fun and exciting adventures. We have tons of things planned for this upcoming summer that we can’t wait to set out to do. One of the things that Michael and I really enjoy doing throughout the summer months is to go on spontaneous road trips.
When we first started dating, this was something we’d do almost weekly. We’d simply drive around, adventure, and have a ton of fun doing so. We both enjoy a nice road trip and for us, the ones that are the most memorable are the ones that aren’t planned and are spontaneous. Who else agrees with us? š
In order to have a successful spontaneous road trip, there are some must-haves that you need to have with you. Thankfully, these essentials don’t take any planning at all and you can quickly round all of these needs up in just a few minutes! Here’s what’s on my spontaneous road trip to-bring list!
WHAT TO BRING ON A SPONTANEOUS ROAD TRIP:
Car Phone Chargers // If you’re like me and use your phone quite often throughout the day, you probably already have a car phone charger in your car. It is so key to always have at least one, though I recommend two, car phone chargers on hand for a road trip. Nowadays, the majority of people use their phone for GPS. For every road trip, you’re going to need GPS at some point, even on the trips where you’re purposely trying to get lost – you need to get home somehow afterwards! Plus, phones double as a camera for most people, and it’s really special to document your adventure!
Change Of Clothes // Even if you’re just going for a spontaneous day-trip road trip, I encourage you to pack a change of clothes. If you’re going into a completely unplanned day, you never know what you might need to wear or if you’ll need to change for an activity. In the summer, you should always keep a bathing suit with you, as well as a sweatshirt for cooler summer nights. I don’t know about you, but if I came across an amazing lake I’d rather quick change into my bathing suit than jump in with my clothes on, haha.
Some Easy Snacks // Something my husband and I have learned is to make sure we quick pack some snacks before we leave on our road trip. We love packing easy snacks like pretzels or animal crackers. Anything that’s easy to munch on is really our go-to for road trips. By having some snacks on hand, you’ll really be saving your money for activities, rather than tons and tons of snacks when you’re on the road.
Grab Some Ice Cold Coca-Colaā¢ // Coca-Cola is my jam all year round, but especially during the summertime. There’s just something about an ice cold Coca-Cola or Coca-Cola Zeroā¢ that always hits the spot.
Michael and I always head to CVS to grab our preferred Coca-Cola products (Michael loves Coca-Cola Classic and I love Coke Zero). CVS is the perfect place to pick up the bottle for on-the-go moments like heading to the beach, going to summer concert festivals, etc.
This summer, Coca-Cola brought back their Share A Coke fun with 1,000 new names, featuring first and last names! Such a fun way to get any road trip pumped up and jamming the whole time. Right now, at CVS, grab 2 for $3 when you use your CVS ExtraCare card.
Camera & Equipment // I mentioned earlier that there are many people who use their phones as their cameras. While I use my phone to capture more behind-the-scenes shots for Instagram or Snapchat, I use my DSLR to capture photos. It’s hugely important to me that I am able to get the road trip memories on camera. When you bring your camera with you, make sure you grab some extra batteries and perhaps an extra SD card in case you need them.
Road Trip Playlist // I hope I’m not the only person like this, but I’m playlist crazy. I love making playlists for basically everything. I make playlists for every season, mornings, gatherings, and more – you name it! Again, tying into why having car phone chargers is an essential part of a road trip – your phone has your music on it. Just pull up an upbeat playlist or one that complements the mood of the drive and jam on out.
Those are my major must-haves for every spontaneous road trip! Whenever I’m going on a road trip, you bet you’ll find me with an ice cold Coca-Cola in hand. It brings the road trip to life!
